This post is definitely something different for all my friends and followers to enjoy. My better half (Anita) and I went to the 1st Annual Baltimore Grand Prix held in downtown Baltimore on Pratt Street and several other major streets & avenues surrounding Baltimore’s bay area. The course had the cars running right along the Orioles (Camden Yards) and Ravens Stadiums (M&T Bank) and right down Pratt Street where they really opened up their engines. You had to see and hear it to appreciate it. What a sport; I’ve never witnessed a professional race of any type before, what a thrill!
The race that I enjoyed most was the American Le Mans Series Race with the Porches’, Ferraris', Corvettes, BMW’s and other exotic cars. I own a 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera S and have owned a few others prior to this one so I really love driving them. I’ve also owned several BMW’s over the years and I like them too but I’ve never owned an ‘M’ Series BMW that I hear is a hell of a car. Anyway, I liked watching this race; the cars were just incredible as they hugged the road at 150 mph and up. What a thrill to see first-hand.
Then there were the Corvettes and the Ferraris’; they were moving like lightning in the sky.
We saw a young boy carrying parts from a car that had crashed in one of the races yesterday; boy was he excited. I’ll bet you he becomes a professional race car driver some day. He has the drive to do it as long as he has the support around him.
I still can’t believe that they were able to stage these races in downtown Baltimore. The roads were perfectly designed for the race and the downtown traffic was rerouted without much of a problem. I think that the race was a great thing for Baltimore and it’s economy. The hotels were all full and the restaurants were all crowded, so with that kind of action, it will certainly help Baltimore’s local businesses.
Finally, we had passes to the “Paddock Area” where the cars were stored and being worked on. It was amazing to see how the cars were being assembled or being repaired.
I hope you enjoyed the photos of the race and those from the Paddock Area. As I said, this is a different post for all of my friends that enjoy the races. I’ll get back to my music tomorrow for sure. Hope you’re having a Happy Labor Day Weekend and eating lots of burgers, hotdogs, baked beans and corn on the cob. I can smell it all as I’m writing. Don’t forget to give your kids a big hug tonight;
So, until next time;
