Chris Hauska and MBN at “THE REUNION” . . .

 

Last Friday night, July 11th, I had the honor of joining local recording artist Chris Hauska on stage at a Bar & Grille in Frederick, MD called “The Reunion”.  It was one of the greatest times I’ve ever had performing with another solo artist.  Chris is a master musician who has the keen ability to get a crowd up out of their seats and dancing.  Not all artists have that ability.

 

The crowd was full of fellow members of the construction industry that Chris and I happen to be part of.  In fact, back in 2004 Chris and I met thru our construction business relationship where his company at the time (Bovis Lend Lease) and my company (Commercial Hardware of MD, Inc.) were doing a myriad of business together.  He also had another fellow employee who was a vocalist; Steve Ungerbuehler and they actually had a rock band called E.F.T. that they were attempting to get off the ground for some time.

 

Then the three of us played a birthday party for one of our friends but after that, Chris went off on his own.  Actually it was for the better because he became a much better performer/musician thru it all.  Back to Friday night, July 11th at “The Reunion”.  Like I first said, it was a great night and jamming with the likes of Chris Hauska was one of the highlights of my career thus far.

 

We played songs such as;

For What It’s Worth, Free Fallin’, Rockin’ the Free World, Ain’t No Sunshine Where She’s Gone, Sympathy for the Devil, The Weight, Wagon Wheel and many more . . .

The crown went crazy when Chris played Michael Jackson’s . . . “Beat It”.   Chris’ rendition was so unique and funky that everyone just loved it.   “He is a musical genius that’s for sure” per Tara Connell McCarthy .  She just loves that guy !!!

 

I really look forward to the opportunity of playing once again with Chris.  I enjoy his enthusiasm, his approach to entertaining the crowds and I just love to listen to him play his guitar and sing those traditional songs, but in a non-traditional manner like no one else can do.   When I get the chance to join him on stage again, I will play my heart out to make sure his following isn’t disappointed in what they hear from my 6-strings.

Jack White (Part 2 of 2: “His Solo Career”) . . .

Solo career

It was rumored that in 2003 Jack White collaborated on Electric Six's song "Danger! High Voltage." Both he and the Electric Six denied this, and the vocal work was credited officially to John S O'Leary. However, a recent radio interview with Tim Shaw on Kerrang! 105.2 in the UK had Electric Six lead singer Dick Valentine talking openly about White singing on this song as well as speculating on the amount of money he was paid ($60,000). Also, a Q magazine article stated that Jack White did in fact work with Electric Six on the song "Gay Bar".

In 2008, Jack White collaborated with the infamous Alicia Keys on the song "Another Way to Die", the theme song for the James Bond film Quantum of Solace.

He also appeared in the movie Cold Mountain and performed five songs for the Cold Mountain soundtrack: "Sittin' on Top of the World", "Wayfaring Stranger", "Never Far Away", "Christmas Time Soon Will Be Over" and "Great High Mountain."

In 2009, Jack White was featured in It Might Get Loud, a film in which he, Jimmy Page and The Edge come together to discuss the electric guitar and each artist's different playing methods. White's first solo single, "Fly Farm Blues," was written and recorded in 10 minutes during the filming of the movie in August. The single went on sale as a 7-inch vinyl record from Third Man Records and as a digital single available through iTunes on August 11.

In November 2010, producer Danger Mouse announced that White had been recruited for his collaboration with Daniele Luppi entitled Rome along with Norah Jones. White provided vocals to three songs on the album: "The Rose with the Broken Neck," "Two Against One" and "The World."

The song "You Know That I Know", finished and performed by Jack White, was featured on The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams, released on October 4, 2011.

On January 30, 2012 Jack released "Love Interruption" as the first single of his debut solo album, Blunderbuss, which was released on April 24, 2012. The album was produced by Vance Powell, who has worked with such notable names as Kings of Leon, The Whigs and Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes. On March 3, 2012, White appeared on Saturday Night Live (SNL) as the musical guest, with Lindsay Lohan hosting.

 

White played selected dates in the summer of 2012, with festivals such as Radio 1's Hackney Weekend, Sasquatch! Music Festival, Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, one of the biggest festivals in the world, Rock Werchter in Belgium, and later in the year he headlined Austin City Limits Music Festival. For his solo shows, White tours with two bands. One, The Peacocks, is all-female, and the other, The Buzzards is all-male.

The next artist on my “Hot List” is David Bromberg.

David Bromberg (born September 19, 1945) is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. An eclectic artist, Bromberg plays bluegrass, blues, folk, jazz, country and western, and rock and roll equally well. He is known for his quirky, humorous lyrics, and the ability to play rhythm and lead guitar at the same time.

Up and Coming Local Artist: Chris Hauska . . .

A very good friend of mine, Chris Hauska is one of the Hottest New Artists in the Metro DC Arena.  He is an “acoustic guitar maestro” who explores with blues, folk, country, rock and other venues during one of his shows.  His unique vocal talents along with his guitar skills create a performance that the audience just soaks up.

Merry Christmas 2011, and 2012 ~ The Year of Musician By Night

Ho Ho Ho ! Merry Christmas !

This Christmas will be a memorable one, since I am recuperating from a hip replacement and leg lengthening surgery that I had on December 6th.  I am tied down to the bed other than when I do my physical rehab or when the nurse visits to check my vitals.  I can’t wait to see what I will be like after the physical rehab is complete and I’ll be able to walk without crutches or a walker now that my legs are the same length. 

My fiancé’ and better half, Anita, is caring for me and has been since my surgery.  For that, I am so very thankful; because without her, I do not know where I’d be right now due to the state of modern health care and health insurance.  Because of such poorly managed health care/insurance benefits, I’ve started doing my own physical rehab as much as possible and now I’m playing the guitar for about 30 minutes to an hour a day to get myself limber again, but I can tell it is going to take a whole lot more than that to get back where I was.  I’ll be able to get back there in no time at all if I continue practicing the 30 minutes to an hour a day and increase it to 2 hours a day starting January 2nd.

I recently spoke with a good friend of mine, Chris Hauska, who is a lead vocalist and strong rhythm guitarist whom I’m going to start rehearing with once I am 100% healed and ready to move forward with the band.  I also need to get together with another good friend of mine, Nik Kosmas, who is a premier bass player, guitarist and vocalist and whom I would like to include in the band.  Nik is an outstanding musician who is also a degreed electrical/sound engineer who’d be an outstanding addition to the band for many reasons, most importantly because of his musical prowess.  Also, we’re in sync and if a band has that, everything else will fall into place.

I believe that Nik, Chris and I will be “In-Sync”, so then we can produce whatever type of music we choose to as long as we stay that way.  Whether we decide to add a live drummer or use something along the lines of Boss’s Dr. Rhythm DR-880 Rhythm Machine (a rhythm-programming powerhouse loaded with world-class drum, percussion, and bass sounds from Roland's famous SRX library), we still need to retain our state of cohesiveness or we’ll jeopardize the basis of our sound.

I plan to continue the web based marketing and networking that I have begun so that Musician By Night will be a recognized name in the local Metro DC Entertainment Industry, and as we emerge into the marketplace, we’ll be able to “Hit It Big”.

2012 – The Year of . . . ‘Musician By Night’

As I continue to progress both physically and musically, I’ll be posting regular updates on my personal progress and the progress of the band.  I hope that you’ll stay with me as ‘Musician By Night’ debuts live and in person later next year.  2012 looks to be a great one for us; I hope that it is for you as well!
