Sharing the knowledge:

Saturday’s are a regular day for me to meet with brand new guitarists, hungry to learn how to play the instrument that has us all mesmerized to the point of addiction.  You know what I’m talking about if you care to admit it.  Today, a very good friend of mine, Kevin DiMarco, was here for his second lesson.  We met a couple weeks back, but due to scheduling conflicts, we’ve been unable to get together again until today.

DSC01161We took advantage of the extreme weather we’re having by staying inside as we spent from 1:00PM until nearly 5:00PM going over and over the chord changes and rhythm patterns that I chose for Kevin to start with as a  beginner.

Kevin had a request to learn the rhythm pattern for the song “ Island in the Sun “ by Weezer, so we got on the computer and he showed me how to purchase the song from iTunes. I’ve never done that before; it’s quite easy and a nice tool that I’ll have to remember how to use.  Well, I really liked the rhythm in that song so I learned it in about 15 or 20 minutes and then proceeded to show Kevin the chords so he could start working on those chord changes along with the others that I gave him for his work at home until our next session.

Working with Kevin, a very motivated student of the guitar, actually helps to inspire my own personal musical creativity.  It drives me to work harder and learn more, sooner rather than later.  I love the guitar and the ability that GOD has blessed me with. Using it to the best of my ability is what I am looking to do at this point in my life. So I must thank Kevin for being a spark that every artist needs at one point or another, to push them along a little harder than they’ve worked.

I hope that you are enjoying your weekend as much as I am enjoying mine, and that it is filled with musical experiences.  Thanks for reading, and don’t forget to hug your children.

All the best,

Bob
