Well after loosing my post dedicated to my collection of acoustic-electric guitars, I plan to try and rewrite that post with as many of the facts as I did the first time around. Please bear with me.
In 2005, I had the opportunity to play a gig with my friends, Chris Hauska and Steve Ungerbuehler. We were like Crosby, Stills & Nash at that gig. We didn’t have the opportunity to rehearse as much as we would have preferred to, but we pulled it off none-the-less. One of the best things I could have done was to purchase the Lien 6 Variax, Acoustic-Electric (Modeling) guitar to have for that night. The variety of instruments that it offers is unbelievable; banjo. jumbo acoustic, mandolin, 12-string acoustic, country style acoustic & so on.
With Chris playing an Ovation Acoustic-Electric guitar and singing lead & back-up vocals to Steve, and me playing that guitar using the many different instrument sounds, we sounded great. Actually, we played a few songs by America and it came out wonderful with me having the Variax set on the 12-string guitar sound. We even played an acoustic version of Led Zeppelin's “Stairway to Heaven” with that 12-string sound it came out great. I must admit that the Line 6 Variax is probably my most versatile guitar in my arsenal of acoustic-electric guitars, including my Godin’s.
The next in my acoustic-electric collection, is a rather interesting and eye catching instrument. It is my 1990 Ovation Celebrity Acoustic-Electric Guitar with a rosewood fingerboard, gold Grover machine heads and set-up with the MARTIN M-1400 MARQUIS silk & steel folk acoustic guitar strings. This model is one of Ovation’s standard models with the rounded/contoured back made out of fiberglass giving the instrument a comfortable feel against the body and a bright sound projection through the small holes in the face of the guitar near the base of the neck.
MARTIN MARQUIS SILK & STEEL FOLK ACOUSTIC GUITAR
Martin Folk offers the driving force of steel strings and soft tonal properties often associated with classical strings. A center wrap of silk fiber provides easier fingering and minimizes the brilliance for a sweeter and more mellow sound. For the Marquis we hand wrap silk around the ball end area to reduce wear on the bridge plate.
Ibanez EW Series EWN28BGENT:
Cutaway Nylon String Acoustic-Electric Guitar
Smaller and shallower for increased comfort and acoustic projection.
The EWN28BGENT Cutaway Nylon String Acoustic-Electric is a more compact member of Ibanez Exotic Wood series guitars. It features a body that's smaller in size and shallower in depth for increased comfort and acoustic projection. With a narrow neck width the EWN28BGENT is perfect for players who find typical classical guitar necks too wide and the soft cutaway provides complete fretboard access. Aesthetic features include a gorgeous bubinga wood body, a strikingly beautiful laser engraved wood rosette, mahogany binding, and gold open gear tuning machines. You won't find anything else quite like the Ibanez EW guitars — even among guitars that are much more expensive.
The EWN28BGENT is fully equipped for both acoustic and electric performance with an ultra thin B-Band® UST (under-the-saddle) pickup and the Ibanez SRTn Preamp. The B-Band® UST pickup has a wide dynamic range and reproduces original tones without affecting the instrument acoustically. The SRTn's notch filter-equipped feedback reduction system allows high loud sound levels before feedback. Control adjustments are simple and easy to use, and tuning is a snap thanks to the onboard tuner. The EWN28BGENT has a 1/4" output jack, and a balanced XLR jack for direct PA connection. Operates on standard AA batteries.

This guitar was very special to me so I gave it to my oldest son Dave so he could start getting back into his music and guitar playing. I’ll do a post on him a little later on and you can get to know more about him then.
My acoustic-electric collection is growing little-by-little, as I find deals on used guitars or catch super deals on new models. Right now, my focus is on acquiring a Gibson ES-335 semi-hollow body guitar (Larry Carlton & Lee Ritenour both play one), an Alpine White, Gibson Les Paul Custom, a used American Made Fender Strat (any color) and a USA Made HAMER Custom hand-built guitar, preferably the “Triple-Threat” if I can get my hands on one.
I hope you like my collection of acoustic-electric guitars and can appreciate the time I have invested in the care and upkeep of all of them. I have a friend, Nik Kosmas, who is the Guitar/Audio Technician at the Glen Burnie, MD Guitar Center. He takes care of all my guitars; he knows exactly how I like to have each of their action adjusted and he knows exactly what type of strings I use too. Nik is the best guitar and audio tech in the area, not to include an awesome bass player. I’ll do a separate post just on him and what he can offer a guitarist as part of his service tech business and of course more about his band.
Have a great day, don’t work too hard. Enjoy, every minute and keep practicing those scales. Stay cool !!
Bob
